“It was such an iconic casting decision on the part of Sono_Babes, casting Valentina Coggins as Valentine’s Day aesthetic. Two and a half years ago, when this video was conceived, it would have been seen as utter sacrilege. A literal taboo. But today, it captures a cultural zeitgeist. What Valentina does in this clip is subversive, it’s provocative, but it’s ultimately playful.”
As for Valentina herself, the 22-year-old seems unfazed by the attention, channeling her frustration into her craft. “Making this video made me confront my suppressed anger and hurt,” she says. “I got to play around with larger-than-life characters and ideas that I wouldn’t normally entertain in my day-to-day life. It was liberating.”
Katherine wholeheartedly agrees, “Valentina is a raw, unfiltered talent. And this video is a perfect example of her ability to combine aesthetically pleasing content with meaningful messages about sexual politics and female empowerment.”
